If I Must Die: Screening & Collective Reading
If I Must Die: Screening and Collective Reading
in memory of Dr. Refaat Alareer
When: Friday Jan. 12, 2024 5:30-7PM, doors open at 5PM.
Where: University College, Room UC140. 15 King’s College Circle.
Free, public event. RSVP not required.
Join us for a screening of one of Dr. Refaat Alareer’s lectures on poetry, as a professor at the Islamic University of Gaza. 36 days after Dr. Alareer was assassinated in an Israeli airstrike, we gather to grieve, to honour the many poets, writers, journalists, and artists who have been martyred by Israel, to practice deep listening, to renew our commitments to Palestinian liberation and each other. We will close with a collective reading of Refaat’s final poem, “If I Must Die”, translated into multiple languages. Please reach out directly if you would like to contribute a reading or translation!
