Sex Salon Call for Proposals

About the series: The Sex Salon is a monthly speakers series hosted on the last Wednesday of every month from 5:00 – 7:00 PM EST. The aim is to collaboratively build a space to exchange ideas, make art and community, and create dialogue around gender and sexual diversity, 2SLGBTQIA+ organizing, and the development of critical sexuality studies.

We seek to ensure that the Sex Salon serves queer and trans communities in the Greater Toronto Area and are committed to cultivating spaces that challenge the traditional boundaries of academia by decentering elitist knowledge practices.

For examples of past events, you can view a select archive online.

Format: In light of COVID-19, Sex Salon has been a digital series for the past two years. This year we are planning to move to a hybrid model based on the proposal submissions. Applicants will be able to request their panel as an in-person event or an online event via Zoom.

In addition to traditional academic presentations, events can take the form of artist talks, community roundtables, panels, workshops, film screenings, artistic installations, and other forms of community-based knowledge dissemination. Alternative event-presentation formats are welcomed and encouraged! We especially encourage QTBIPoC folks, community organizers, under/graduate students, artists and 2SLGBTIA+ community organizations including and especially grassroots collectives to contribute to our series.

Accessibility: The Sex Salon is committed to reducing barriers, and are committed to securing supports such as ASL interpretation, captioning, safety mechanisms, etc.

Honorariums: The Sex Salon has a small budget to offer honorariums. Honorariums will be prioritized for speakers who do not have direct funding from an institution, organization, and or grant, (e.g. community organizers, artists, and grassroots collectives).

To submit: Please complete this form.
