Queer Directions Experimental Classroom
We invite all UofT graduate students across the disciplines and fourth-year undergraduate students in SDS to apply to participate in an “experimental classroom” as part of the Bonham Centre’s annual Queer Directions event. Each year, Queer Directions features innovative developments in queer and trans studies, focusing on emerging and vital themes and critiques. This year’s theme is Queer & Trans Reflections and features speakers Jasbir K. Puar, Roderick Ferguson, Billy-Ray Belcourt, and Dora Silva Santana.
With the Sexual Diversity Studies Department experiencing its 25th anniversary this year, we have dedicated the year to a series of reflections: where have we been, where are we now, and where we have yet to go? As a community, we continue to challenge ourselves to be better, and to do better, and we continue to hope and dream for more and otherwise. The experimental classroom, taking place one day prior to the public event on Thursday March 14 from 3PM to 5PM, serves as a space where we can collectively explore these questions. Those invited to participate will have the opportunity to converse and engage with these questions both alongside our invited speakers and with each other.
Applications to this year’s experimental classroom are due March 8, 2024. Space is limited and decisions regarding acceptance will be made based on the relevance of applicant’s research and interest to the larger theme.
* The experimental classroom is a separate event from the main Queer Directions for UofT graduate students and upper-year SDS undergrads. Those interested in our main event must register separately on Eventbrite.
