SDS student Alec Butler on Scarlett Johansson and roles for trans actors

Playwright, filmmaker, and SDS major Alec Butler addressed Scarlett Johansson’s new role as Dante (Tex) Gill, a trans man, in Rub & Tug.  Butler and other trans folks and allies have expressed their disappointment in the role going to Johansson. “It’s bad form on her part to take another role away from a trans actor who could use the work, use the exposure [and] portray a trans person more authentically,” Butler says.  Read the full article here.
