Shawna Carroll

Shawna is a 5th year PhD Candidate at OISE in the Department of Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning. Shawna’s PhD research focuses on the ways women and gender nonconforming racialized, POC, and Indigenous folks negotiate their subjectivities through the anticolonial counternarrative fiction they read. Using an anticolonial feminist postmodern literacy theoretical framework and a feminist Deleuzian methodological framework, Shawna will create a book club research environment for the project. Shawna aims to look at the ways reading anticolonial counternarratives create spaces for folks to thrive and subvert normative classification systems and labels. Shawna has taught a variety of courses at the elementary, secondary, and postsecondary level, and is an educator at heart!
