me-in-damascus

Based out of the Department of Anthropology, Mathew’s research focuses on the impact of gay dating technologies on the formation of queer socialities and subjectivities in Beirut, Lebanon. Specifically, he examines how men’s participation in these technologies are renegotiating the social categories and structures that exclude and repress queer sexualities. Mathew’s work has been published in the Journal of Middle East Women’s Studies, Middle East Journal of Culture and Communication, and on Jadaliyya.com and Muftah.org. Mathew has lived and conducted fieldwork in Istanbul, Turkey, Damascus, Syria and Beirut, Lebanon.
