Anna Gutmanis is an award-winning singer/songwriter and social justice activist. She obtained her BA from U of T with a minor in Sexual Diversity Studies in 2005. Prior to this, Anna divided her time between performing, recording , and participating in activist groups such as Lesbians Against The Right. She became a social worker in 1996, working in various women’s and youth shelters, as well as a drop-in for homeless people. Anna was an active SDS alumna after graduation, editing, writing, and taking photographs for the Bonham Centre Newsletter between 2006 and 2007, as well as participating in the Advisory Committee. From 2008 to the present, Anna has been concentrating on her career in music. She released “I Am Who I Am” as a CD single in 2008, performing at Canadian and U.S. Pride celebrations, music festivals and special events. Dubbed an LGBT anthem, the song won the Pride In The Arts “2009 Pride Song” Award and continues to top OutVoice Charts. Her new full-length album “Glimmer In The Dark”, like “I Am Who I Am”, has been enthusiastically received at grassroots LGBT radio internationally, and has also gone on to garner cross-Canada campus radio airplay. She has also recently received 2 nominations for RightOUT TV Video and Music Awards.
