Rooted in the expressive tradition of vogue\, a dance form born from Black and Latino queer communi ties\, this session invites participants to step into movement as a form o f joy\, expression\, and self-affirmation.\n\nTogether\, we’ll explore:\ n\n \n How to embody movement in 3D\n \nTechniques for interpreting mus ic through dance\n \nThe 5 core elements of vogue performance\n\n\nWhethe r you're new to dance or looking to reconnect with your body in joyful\, e mpowering ways\, this workshop is designed to help you leave feeling more alive\, accomplished\, and connected to community. Participants are encour aged to bring water bottles\, a small towel and knee pads (optional but re commended).This workshop is part of our ongoing Queerborough Speaker Serie s\, which brings together local artists\, activists\, and community member s to imagine and archive a queer Scarborough through art\, storytelling\, and creative expression.\n\nFacilitator Bio\nToronto local and multi-disci plinary artist\, King Diwa\, exemplifies his deep passion and background o f the arts towards his community and peers\, providing art driven workshop s used as tools to positively tackle one’s mental health and well being. At an early age King grew up playing the piano which later into middle sch ool\, had expanded his instrumental vocabulary to sounds from the trumpet\ , drums\, guitar\, alto sax\, flute\, French horn and more. It was when Ki ng attended Wexford Collegiate School for The Arts\, when he pivoted his m usic career to become a dancer. While technically trained in ballet\, mode rn and contemporary during the school program\, outside King picked up lea rning the street styles of dance which included hip-hop\, krump\, house\, afro\, dancehall and recently\, vogue.King’s career has taken him across the world working with artists like Kreesha Turner\, Ginette Claudette an d Inez while having the opportunity to teach in Spain\, Scotland\, Dominic an Republic\, London\, United states and nationally across Canada. His fav ourite part of his career has been working as a guest artist for his high- school where he gets the opportunity to create\, encourage and enlighten t he next generation\, while observing the direction\, trends and spunk they bring. As King continues his journey in the arts\, he strives to always b e a student of life and accept opportunities that align with his goals as they come. Now stepping out as a DJ (K-22)\, King uses his platform to com bine everything he’s learned into an art that he hopes resonates with hi s peers\, cultivating community and ultimate vibes.“Sometimes we all nee d a moment to just let it all out and let loose.
