SUMMARY:Human Rights Panel: Cairo's 2013 Bathhouse Raid
DESCRIPTION:Hundreds of LGBTQ Egyptians have been among the victims of the 
 country’s massive human rights violations since the 2013 coup. Police ta
 rget vulnerable queers through online entrapment and bathhouse raids\, kee
 ping more people imprisoned for their sexuality and gender expression than
  any other country in the world. This talk examines how these abuses relat
 e to other state crimes and the role of the Obama administration in suppo
 rting the Sisi regime.\n\nNayrouz Abu Hatoum\, a York University doctoral 
 candidate in Social Anthropology whose work has appeared in Jadaliyya\, Sa
 wt Al Niswa and Al-Akhbar\, will introduce the lecture. Scott Long\, found
 ing director of Human Rights Watch's Lesbian\, Gay\, Bisexual and Transgen
 der Rights Program\, is a human rights fellow at Harvard Law School. He wi
 ll talk about living in Cairo over the last three years and his work with 
 Egyptian activists in response to the mounting crackdown on sexuality and
